During your orthodontic treatment it is VERY important to keep your teeth clean and healthy. Although it may seem obvious to some, cleaning your teeth fully at least twice daily after every meal is crucial to taking care of your teeth while in braces. The impact of poor dental hygiene during orthodontics can be both severe and lifelong. If you would like to avoid gum swelling, staining on teeth, bad breath and cavities, here are some tips to help maintain clean teeth during your treatment
- Brush after each meal and if you must skip real brushing at least rinse your mouth with water.
- Floss Daily!!!!
- Use a fluoride rinse daily! Rinse for about one minute and spit it out. The extra fluoride can help protect and strengthen the teeth.
- If you have elastic bands or headgear, remove these parts before you brush or floss.
Make sure to visit your dentist every 6 months for your cleanings even during your orthodontic treatment!!
